Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

At Premier Dental of Carlisle, we prioritize your comfort and peace of mind during every visit. Understanding that dental anxiety can prevent many individuals from seeking necessary care, we offer sedation dentistry options to make your dental experience as stress-free and comfortable as possible. Our sedation dentistry is designed to suit patients who experience dental anxiety, have a low pain threshold, or require extensive dental procedures.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It’s often referred to as “sleep dentistry,” although that term is not entirely accurate, as patients are usually awake except for those who are under general anesthesia.

Our Sedation Options

We offer sedation to meet the unique needs of our patients:

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): This is a mild sedative and the lightest form of sedation we offer. It is administered through a mask that allows you to inhale the gas. It is designed to relax you without putting you to sleep, and the effects wear off quickly once the mask is removed.
  • Oral Sedation: Depending on the dose given, oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate. For minimal sedation, you take a pill about an hour before the procedure. You’ll feel drowsy but will still be awake. A larger dose may be given to produce moderate sedation, which is the most common form of anesthesia used in sedation dentistry.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

Safety is our top priority. Our dental team is extensively trained in sedation dentistry, and we conduct a thorough review of your medical history and current health before recommending a sedation option. We closely monitor you throughout the procedure to ensure your utmost safety and comfort.
