Dental crowns

Restore strength, functionality, and aesthetics to your damaged teeth with dental crowns from Premier Dental of Carlisle.

A dental crown is a custom-fitted covering that encases the entire visible portion of a tooth, providing stability and protection for weakened, damaged, or cosmetically imperfect teeth.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are versatile restorations used to address a variety of dental issues. They can be used to:

  • Protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that’s already broken.
  • Cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t a lot of tooth left.
  • Hold a dental bridge in place.
  • Cover misshapen or severely discolored teeth.
  • Cover a dental implant.
  • Make a cosmetic modification for improved smile aesthetics.
Dental Crowns

Crowns can be made from various materials, including porcelain, ceramic, zirconia, metal, or a combination of these. Porcelain and ceramic crowns are popular for their natural color match, making them an ideal choice for front teeth restorations.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

  • Durability: Crowns are designed to last many years and are highly durable under normal chewing forces.
  • Protection: They provide a strong, protective cover, safeguarding the vulnerable part of the tooth underneath.
  • Aesthetic Enhancement: Crowns are made to match the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth, enhancing the appearance of your smile.
  • Functionality: They restore full functionality to your teeth, allowing you to eat, chew, and speak comfortably.

The Crown Placement Process

The process of getting a crown typically requires two visits to our office. During the first visit, your tooth will be reshaped to fit the crown, which involves removing a portion of the tooth’s outer layer. An impression of your tooth will then be taken and sent to a dental lab where your crown will be custom-made. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being crafted. On your second visit, the permanent crown is adjusted for fit and color, then cemented into place.
