Dental Bridges

Restore your smile and regain your confidence with dental bridges from Premier Dental of Carlisle. A dental bridge is a fixed restorative solution designed to replace one or more missing teeth, bridging the gap and restoring both the function and appearance of your smile.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge consists of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap — these are called abutment teeth — and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are known as pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Bridges are designed to look like your natural teeth and can dramatically enhance the appearance of your smile.
  • Improved Functionality: Replacing missing teeth helps restore your ability to chew and speak properly.
  • Maintain Facial Shape: Bridges support your facial structure, preventing the sunken appearance that can occur with tooth loss.
  • Prevent Misalignment: By filling the gap, bridges prevent the remaining teeth from shifting, which can lead to a misaligned bite and other dental problems.

Types of Bridges

Depending on the location of the missing tooth, the condition of your adjacent teeth, and your specific needs, we may recommend one of several types of bridges:

  • Traditional Bridges: Involve creating a crown for the tooth or implant on either side of the missing tooth, with a pontic in between.
  • Cantilever Bridges: Used when there are adjacent teeth on only one side of the missing tooth.
  • Maryland Bonded Bridges: Made of porcelain fused to metal or ceramic teeth supported by a framework. These bridges are generally used for the front teeth.

The Procedure

Getting a bridge usually requires two visits to our clinic. During the first visit, the abutment teeth are prepared by recontouring these teeth and taking impressions to create the bridge. A temporary bridge will be placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums. On the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed, and the new porcelain or metal bridge is adjusted and cemented into place.
